The Parish Council represents the thriving community of Burnham, a large village of 13,000 residents, set between Slough and Maidenhead, and including the ancient woodland of Burnham Beeches and outlying hamlets.
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government, with 19 councillors and a staffof 15+. The Council’s responsibilities include: managing the impressive recently-built Burnham Park Hall; the George Pitcher Memorial Ground football pitches and nature reserve; parks and playgrounds; street furniture and local amenities; supporting local organisations; community projects; and representing the views of the local community on issues such as planning, and local and national consultations.
Burnham has a beautiful and historic village centre, which, as with many high streets, has seen a decline in recent years in footfall and the range of shops and services. We are therefore looking for an Economic Development Manager to lead the way in destination management, revitalising the High Street, and the other retail areas.
The successful candidate will be an essential part of our dedicated and community- focussed team, with responsibility for improving the look and feel of the High Street; attracting more visitors and businesses; organising community events; and formulating a strategy to see Burnham’s economy continue to develop and thrive foryears to come.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Develop a strategy and deliver projects to improve the vitality of Burnham High Street, and other business areas in Burnham.
