Altrincham, England’s Great British High Street 2018 winner, is the epitome of the modern market town with high quality shopping, a growing reputation for excellent food and drink, a strong leisure sector and at the centre of it all, a revitalised market. It’s a town with a strong cultural heart, where there is plenty to do and always something going on from live music nights to seasonal festivals, themed markets and sporting events.

With the BID up & running for three years and some key projects delivered, the Altrincham BID Board is now looking to appoint a BID Business Manager.

We are looking for somebody who is extremely thorough with great office management and relationship skills.   Someone with the enthusiasm and initiative to manage a small team in successfully delivering the projects set out in our Business Plan over the remaining two years of the current term and through a re-ballot process.  

This vital and challenging post will suit someone with a real passion for making things happen. Developing, juggling and delivering a variety of projects & services, maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels and making sure that successes are widely promoted and understood. A high level of interpersonal and communication, tact and diplomacy, financial management skills and HR experience are required.

Purpose of the role:

The BID Business Manager is a full-time position, responsible for management of the Altrincham Business Improvement District and its team and for delivering the Altrincham BID Business Plan as identified under the three key themes in the BID Business Plan.  The purpose of the role is to actively engage all local stakeholders in the Altrincham BID area to ensure an inclusive and integrated approach to the improvement and regeneration of the town.

Responsible to:  BID Chairman and BID Board

Salary:  circa £35k dependent on experience

Hours:   Working hours will generally be 9-5.30pm Monday to Friday. However, due to the nature of the post holder’s role and responsibilities some weekend, evening, and early morning working will be expected, and the successful candidate will be expected to attend BID organised events.

 

 

MAIN DUTIES

External Responsibilities

  • Act as the public face of the BID locally and be the first point of contact with the levy-paying businesses in the BID area as well as partners and stakeholders
  • Manage the day to day operation of the BID Company and work with members of the BID Board and all advisory Groups, partner and community groups including the town centre management group and Best Bar Non to deliver the Business Plan
  • Act appropriately upon all matters arising in relation to the BID, as directed by the BID Board
  • Work with businesses and stakeholders to create and deliver projects to benefit businesses in the town centre
  • Work in partnership Trafford Council, including sharing best practice and implementing joint initiatives
  • Devise and Manage the Annual General Meetings, reporting on progress and measuring success to the businesses
  • Monitor and report to the BID Board on the BID activity and ensure that the BID remains on target and budget
  • Work with the BIDs accountancy company to prepare financial information and to report to the BID Board on cashflow.  Manage and maintain monthly accurate income and expenditure reports
  • Provide full reports and organise Board meetings and present to the Board
  • Manage the Board ratification processes annually and actively recruit Board position nominations
  • Work with the Board to ensure they receive appropriate advice and information on all matters relevant to the discharge of its responsibilities
  • Oversee the efficient and effective day to day operation of the BID Company
  • Contribute to the planning of the annual Marketing & Events Plan and ensure it is aligned with the BIDs strategic objectives
  • Be the named signature on all licenses associated with the BID
  • Ensure that the services and initiatives offered by BID contribute to the organisation’s priorities and business plan
  • Be responsible for leading and developing the BID team, direct line management (The Town Ranger and The Events & Communications Manager) and performance reviews
  • Ensure an appropriate resource plan is in place to deliver the BID projects
  • Appoint contractors and seek sign off from the BID Board and ensure all projects are delivered to a high standard, on time and on budget
  • Ensure up to date records are maintained via BID Base the BID’s account management system in relation to the BID membership community and levy collection
  • Monitor performance and lead on evaluation of the BID’s effectiveness using the robust KPI structure
  •  Monitor and report on the baseline services for which Trafford Council is responsible are delivered
  • Oversee the BID levy collection process ensuring the highest possible collection rate, working in partnership with Trafford Council Business Rates team
  • Work to ensure the successful renewal of the BID after the first five-year term
