Are there some things that should not go together?

The clamour to bring new housing into town centres has not always considered the potential conflict with existing commercial uses. Nowhere is this more apparent than the clash with the night time economy.

There are concerns across night time industries that new residents to an area have the ability to threaten the closure of long established businesses due to noise pollution. This problem has been exacerbated during the pandemic where night time businesses were closed but house moves were permitted leading to residents not understanding noise levels before they purchased town centre property. Cases such as Manchester’s Night & Day illustrate the challenge the industry faces.

The 2024 Place Management Conference will explore the future of UK and Irish town and city centres in the context of more housing. We will ask crucial questions on how we get the right balance between the two, what this shift means for the provision for place management services and the impact on the funding models we rely on.

The 2024 Place Management Conference will explore the topic of high street homes in a level of detail not previously explored at ATCM. Tickets are on sale now. Book early to avoid disappointment. For those wanting to pay via invoice and not via credit card, contact Karen Shields at Karen.Shields@atcm.org.

Additional discounts are available for group bookings.
