The latter part of the 20th Century has been tough on the UK’s industrial towns and cities of the north. The increasingly global nature of manufacturing has meant the loss of industry triggering years of economic decline, undermining the health of the high street.
As we move into the third decade of the 21st Century, new opportunities are emerging creating hubs for modern industry. And, with an industrial revolution at play, these new industries can be part of the town centre economy, breathing new life into high streets.
The first meeting of the ATCM North East, Yorkshire, and Humberside network will take place in Sunderland’s Hope Street Xchange, the new home of FabLab. FabLab is North East’s first digital fabrication laboratory and example of the type of industrial innovation that can benefit town centres. As this is the first meeting following the General Election we will also assess the policies of Boris Johnson’s Government and discuss the implications for high streets across the East of England.
